Lichen Fence Competition
The Imagery:
The hidden microscopic world of botany is revealed in a cross section of lichen. Lichen are made of algae and fungus which gives them the ability to colonize many inhospitable places such as bare rock or wood. Visitors to the Botanic Gardens Station and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens will be introduced to the exiting hidden beauty of the plant world.
The Design:
The Lichen cross-section will repeat in 9’0” x 9’0” typical sections to form a continuous fence pattern. Each section will offer a screen of biomorphic forms set in a thin frame made of rings, balls and rods of corten steel, galvanized or painted steel.
